Paradoxal ou évident. Gibran veut quitter Los Angeles au moment même où il obtient officiellement la citoyenneté américaine. Quitter un pays qui vous accepte enfin. C’est ce qui préoccupe Gibran et ses amis, tous originaires du Mexique et vivant à Los Angeles.
Mais c’est alors que Gibran cherche les conditions économiques et pratiques de son départ pour le Mexique, qu’il redécouvre peu à peu les liens émotionnels, relationnels et historiques qui l’attachent aux États-Unis.
À travers la trajectoire de Gibran, le film propose une déconstruction progressive du rêve américain. J’y explore l’imaginaire symbolique lié à ce territoire depuis sa colonisation jusqu’à la création du mythe actuel, qui dépeint les États-Unis et précisément la Californie comme une terre de tous les possibles.

Paradoxical or obvious. Gibran wants to leave Los Angeles just as he officially obtains U.S. citizenship. Leaving a country that has finally accepted him. This is what troubles Gibran and his friends, all of whom are originally from Mexico and live in Los Angeles.
But it is precisely as Gibran explores the economic and practical aspects of his move to Mexico that he gradually rediscovers the emotional, relational, and historical ties that bind him to the United States.
Through the journey...
Through Gibran’s journey, the film offers a gradual deconstruction of the American Dream. In it, I explore the symbolic imagery associated with this land, from its colonization to the creation of the current myth, which portrays the United States—and California in particular—as a land of endless possibilities.
